Tips to keep yourself motivated for the new year/new quarter!
Kaila: Even though it seems silly to set new year’s resolutions, it is nice to reflect and think about how you’d want to improve for a new beginning. I try to motivate myself by being very clear and specific about my goals to make them seem more attainable. Saying “drink 32 oz of water everyday” versus “drink more water” is a better way to set and keep track of your goals. I also tell my friends about my little goals so they can also help me be accountable too. For example, it helps to know if we all are aiming to eat out less so we can make different types of plans to hang out too!
Hailey: For the new year and quarter, I find myself setting my goals in advance and detailing how and when I will accomplish them. I keep myself motivated by creating Pinterest boards, similar to a vision board to visualize how my life will look while achieving the goal I set for myself. It is important to know yourself, and what is realistic versus unrealistic for you so that you don’t feel like your goals are out of reach. Goals are baby steps, especially when trying to change or start a habit like getting better sleep or eating healthier. I also like starting new goals alongside friends because it makes those goals seem much more fun–like going to the gym with friends.
Jaini: The winter quarter can be challenging, but I’ve found a few things that help me stay on track and keep my motivation up. First off, staying organized is a must. I got a new planner to kick off the year (but you can also use Google Calendar or anything online) to help me keep my deadlines in check. To keep myself focused, I like switching up my study spots. Instead of always being stuck in the library, I’ll go to different cafes with friends. My favorites are the Mugs and Stereoscope. I also set goals for the quarter. I list things I want to accomplish and set standards to follow, which helps keep me focused. And, of course, taking care of myself is the most important part. I try to get 7-8 hours of sleep, eat well, and stay active. It’s so tempting to just stay cozy in bed with the winter chill, but staying healthy is the key to keeping up with everything.
